How to Grow Your Visibility on LinkedIn

Are you playing peekaboo with your followers?

No this is not an anecdote about how if we want my 6 year old daughter, Síofra to do anything, these days, we have to play at least one round of hide and seek.

Let me explain... are you out there on your social media platform of choice one minute, and then gone? 

Are your followers seeing you one minute but then you're gone the next?

So are you playing peekaboo and then, like Sally, who runs an amazing fitness coaching business, do you stand up at networking events and ask "Is anyone getting any business from social media?" as she rolls her eyes...

Well the thing is you can't play peekaboo with your followers and expect them to turn into clients.

Because, oh this is going to be harsh. They probably won't notice that you're gone.

But your overall visibility will notice, and not in a good way... because you just won't be able to break outside the bubble of super-fans that love you.

Which means you won't be able to grow your business with ease.

So let's tackle this. What's holding you back from being seen?

βœ… You have the skills.

βœ… You have the experience.

βœ… You have the credentials. 

Maybe you're focusing on telling people how you can help them in the wrong way...

By any chance, are you telling them about how you do what you do? Instead of why you do what you do? 

Are you focused on figuring out what packages to offer, what prices to sell them at instead of sharing the emotional outcome of how your clients feel when they start working with you?

  • Have you asked your clients how they feel when they work with you?
  • What words do they use?
  • What outcomes do they achieve?

Once you know that, then it's time to decide where to put your efforts.

Can I share something that very few people will tell you?

There is no perfect social media platform.

Trust me, I've worked in advertising & media for over 26 years. I've got the wrinkles to prove it. Although they're quite fine because my Mum's genes are magnificent in the skin department, but I digress.

The point is. There is enough audience on all of the social media platforms. You can find clients anywhere.

However... 

The reason that I love LinkedIn is based on the fact that when I talk to my clients about content creation they always tell me that it makes them feel overwhelmed.

Now, I then tell them, that it's ok, I'll show them how to do it really easily. They generally don't believe me at first. But in the words of Nikki from Holisticare who said "Elaine, you said it would be easy, I didn't believe you, but it is." I'd like to reassure you, that if you work with me and this happens I won't say "I told you so."

One of the things that I love about LinkedIn is that you don't need to feel like you're a Hollywood Director to get traction there.

It’s easy to share different types of content on LinkedIn.

It’s much more forgiving than other networks.

You can even just share an article with some insight! Ok here's a quick checklist of 10 different types of content that you can use on LinkedIn:

There are so many options of easy ways to share your expertise, perspective.

To attract your future client you have to show them that you can help them to achieve the results that they want to achieve.

  • So look at your content objectively, is it clear how you help your clients?
  • Does it represent you (or did you copy someone else's post or branding?)
  • Is it useful for your client and related to the service that you offer?
  • Would you share it if it wasn't yours?

AND you can show up on LinkedIn and reach out to your ideal client without necessarily producing bundles of content.

Be a good listener and conversationalist on the platform:

  • Comment and share your client's content (because it's interesting and you're being genuine)
  • Reaching out in direct messages (the non sleazy way!)
